chrome.exe – The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

After installing the Google Chrome browser on a freshly built system, I tried to start it and kept on getting the following error: “chrome.exe – Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application”.

After a bit of research, I found a successful workaround – to turn off the sandboxing feature of Google Chrome. To do this, add the ‘–no-sandbox’ parameter to the shortcut you are using to start Chrome. Eg your new shortcut would be:

"C:Documents and SettingsusernameLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe" --no-sandbox

Note – there are 2 ‘-’ symbols before the no-sandbox above

Before doing this, it is worth considering the security implementations of turning off the sandbox feature. I would recommend reading up on this, a good starting point is http://blog.chromium.org/2008/10/new-approach-to-browser-security-google.html

I use a maximum of one Google Ad per post to help offset some of my blog hosting costs.
